Alzheimer’s Rates Doubling by 2060

It is expected that by 2060 the number of those affected by Alzheimers will have doubled. Currently, it is the 6th leading cause of death in the US. Woman are effected higher than men (12.2% vs 8.6%). African Americans are expected to have the highest inflation. Estimated increases for all are in large part because of improvements in managing chronic conditions and increases in life expectancy.

Early assessment, detection, and planning with those diagnosed with the disease and their caregiver is vital. Progression is eminent and implementing plans for the future including care should be of high priority. Monitoring the progression and loss of independence are key as the progression of the disease can occur at any time and often are overlooked.
